Grand Éclat 2016
The Champagne Grand Éclat Vintage by Roland Champion embodies the highest expression of the Chardonnay of Chouilly, a Grand Cru village in the Côte des Blancs entirely devoted to this variety. Born from the chalky soils that characterise this exceptional terroir, it is a Vintage Blanc de Blancs conceived to tell of a year through a long maturation, where the calcareous finesse becomes the distinctive mark of a wine of rare purity and crystalline elegance.
This edition, Vintage 2016, undergoes vinification and maturation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varietal purity and the tension typical of the vintage. After the tirage, a long ageing on its own lees for a minimum of 7 years follows, lending breadth, depth and complexity, while the final dosage of 3 g/l, in an Extra Brut style, completes the profile while leaving the mineral tension intact.
On tasting, Grand Éclat 2016 proves broad and deep, with a harmonious, enveloping structure supported by a chalky minerality that runs across the palate with energy. The balance plays on the tension between the fullness of the fruit and the sharpness of the acidity, in a layered whole of great precision. The persistence is long and progressive, marked by a dry, saline finish that prolongs the sensation of freshness and confirms the class of this Blanc de Blancs.
