Champagne Rémy Lequeux-Mercier
G 4.2
The Champagne G 4.2 by Rémy Lequeux-Mercier reveals the most authentic face of the Vallée de la Marne, that of the slopes of Passy-sur-Marne in the Terroir de Condé, where the vineyards enjoy a southern exposure in a landscape suspended between the course of the river and the edge of the forest. Clay-limestone soils, crossed by a sandy component, give the wines natural balance and vibrant tension, while vines with an average age of around forty years yield concentrated grapes capable of conveying the identity of the place with precision. What takes shape is a Blanc de Noirs of artisanal character, expressing with sensitivity and restraint the generosity of a territory still little celebrated yet full of personality.
This edition, from the 2018 harvest, is made exclusively from Meunier grapes and enriched with a 20% share of vin de réserve, which broadens its aromatic dimension and ensures stylistic continuity. Vinification and fermentation are carried out with the aim of preserving the integrity of the fruit and the definition of the variety, enhancing its natural expressiveness. After tirage comes a long ageing on the lees of fully seven years, which amplifies complexity and depth and refines the texture of the perlage. The final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, completes the profile with a taut and precise balance that gives full voice to the terroir.
On tasting, G 4.2 shows a brilliant golden colour and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose opens with notes of ripe yellow-fleshed fruit, pear and quince, interwoven with hints of small red berries, bread crust and brioche, along with delicate spicy and dried fruit nuances born from the long time spent on the lees. On the palate the structure is full and enveloping, supported by lively freshness and a chalky salinity that balance the richness of the Meunier, leading towards a long, precise finish of remarkable persistence.
