Champagne Rémy Lequeux-Mercier

The Champagne Millésime by Rémy Lequeux-Mercier takes shape in Passy-sur-Marne, within the Terroir de Condé in the Vallée de la Marne, where the landscape alternates between river and forest and the vineyards stretch across south-facing slopes. In this setting, clay-limestone soils with sandy components foster a balance between ripeness and tension, while vines with an average age of around 40 years bring depth and definition. The result is a wine that faithfully reflects its origin, combining generosity with precision.

This edition, Millésime 2008, is built on an equal balance of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. The vinification and fermentation are carried out with the aim of preserving integrity and structure, while after bottling the wine undergoes extended lees ageing of over 15 years, developing complexity and layered character. The absence of dosage enhances the wine’s purity, in Brut Nature style, shaping a profile that is clean, taut, and highly precise.

On the palate, Millésime 2008 stands out for its clear and layered profile, with notes of candied citrus, ripe apple, and dried fruit, complemented by hints of chalk, fine spices, and light toasty nuances. On the palate, it unfolds with remarkable tension and precision, driven by vibrant freshness that lifts the structure and defines its rhythm. The texture is saline and incisive, leading to a long, dry persistence with mineral sensations and an exceptionally clean finish.

Production is limited to just 3,780 bottles.

Vigneron Indépendant located in Passy-sur-Marne, a village in the heart of the Vallée de la Marne, the Lequeux-Mercier family Domaine has been producing Champagne for many generations. The owned vineyard consists of 7 hectares distributed across 25 parcels in Passy-sur-Marne, Barzy-sur-Marne, Château-Thierry and Dormans in which the 3 typical Champagne vines (Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay) are grown.

80% of the vineyards face south on clay-marly soils and are cultivated rigorously applying the principles of sustainable viticulture. This strong commitment to reducing external interventions to a minimum has the aim of promoting healthy growth of the individual vines in order to preserve the authenticity of its flavors and the specificity of the terroir.

In the cellar, the fermentation process is conducted as long as possible to ensure soft and fine aromas, malolactic fermentation is not done systematically, but depending on the potential of the wine, to preserve the original and authentic freshness of the future Champagne. After the tirage, the refinement on the yeasts takes place in the cool and shaded underground cellars of the Domaine, for a minimum of 4 years and up to 10 for the vintages.
