Champagne Philipponnat
Blanc de Blancs 2020
The Champagne Blanc de Blancs by Philipponnat offers a luminous and surprising interpretation of the style of a House historically tied to Pinot Noir, here expressed in the vertical grace of Chardonnay. This cuvée comes exclusively from selected Premiers and Grands Crus villages such as Avenay, Vertus, Cramant and Verzy, where the first press juice alone conveys with clarity the chalky finesse and precision of some of the finest limestone terroirs in Champagne.
This edition, Vintage 2020, comes from a sun-drenched year at the peak of three luminous harvests, with ideal ripening and a harvest begun on 24 August that offered grapes of excellent quality. Vinification and fermentation follow a traditional approach that preserves the purity of the fruit, with around 50% matured in oak and without undergoing malolactic. After the tirage comes an ageing of six years on the lees, which gives the wine depth and aromatic complexity, while the final dosage of 4.25 g/l, in Extra Brut style, enhances the balance between freshness and vinosity.
On tasting, Blanc de Blancs 2020 shows pale gold reflections and a very fine perlage, while on the nose it reveals an elegant, floral profile where elderflower gives way to vineyard peach, white nectarine and delicate nuances of vanilla. On the palate it is generous and fruity, with pastry notes reminiscent of a peach tart, before closing on a fresh, elegant finish marked by hints of Timut pepper and a delicate saline note.
