Les Courzy 2020
The Champagne Les Courzy by Nicolas Maillart is a rare single-plot cuvée crafted entirely from Petit Meslier grapes, one of the Cépages Oubliés of Champagne, rediscovered for its natural vivacity and aromatic tension. The grapes come from the lieu-dit Les Courzy, in the Premier Cru of Villers-Allerand, on the Montagne de Reims, where the clay-limestone soils give the wine a luminous freshness and a crystalline profile, the authentic expression of a nearly forgotten ampelographic identity.
This edition, Vintage 2020, reflects a year shaped by a sunny and dry summer that favoured an ideal ripening for Petit Meslier, a late variety capable of preserving natural acidity and aromatic depth. Vinification and maturation take place in fût de chêne, a choice that broadens the texture while preserving tension. After bottling, the wine ages on its lees, enriching its complexity before dégorgement. With no final dosage, in Brut Nature style, it expresses absolute purity and the authentic voice of a rare variety.
On tasting, it shows a bright straw yellow with greenish reflections, enlivened by a very fine perlage. The nose opens on notes of green apple, fresh citrus, aromatic herbs and delicate floral accents. On the palate it is taut, vertical and crystalline, with a precise mineral structure leading to a long, savoury and refreshing finish, a perfect synthesis of freshness and varietal depth.
