Blanc de Blancs 2018

The Champagne Blanc de Blancs offers a luminous and surprising interpretation of the Philipponnat style, historically tied to Pinot Noir. This pure Chardonnay cuvée comes exclusively from selected Premier and Grand Cru villages (Avenay, Chouilly, Oger, Vertus, Trépail), giving rise to a wine of great precision and finesse.

This edition, Vintage 2018, comes from a year marked by an exceptionally dry and favourable summer, which offered grapes of excellent quality and ideal ripeness. Vinification and fermentation follow a traditional approach aimed at preserving the purity of the fruit, with partial malolactic and 38% aged in wood without undergoing it. After the tirage comes an ageing of six years on the lees, which gives the wine depth and aromatic complexity, while the final dosage of 4.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, enhances the balance between freshness and vinosity.

On tasting, Blanc de Blancs 2018 appears pale gold with a very fine perlage. On the nose it is refined and floral, with hints of citrus zest and elderflower, followed by notes of pastry and fresh almond. On the palate it is creamy and citrusy, with touches of cedar and liquorice, before closing on an iodine note of long persistence. A Champagne of mineral elegance and assertive style.

Founded in 1522, Maison Philipponnat is based in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the heart of one of Champagne’s most historic and iconic areas, with a deep connection to the region’s great terroirs. The estate’s approximately 20 hectares of vineyards, classified as Premier and Grand Cru, are cultivated using environmentally respectful practices and hold HVE certification, reflecting a concrete commitment to sustainability and quality. A centuries-old tradition that continues to evolve without losing its stylistic coherence.

Clos des Goisses is the Maison’s ultimate emblem and one of the most iconic vineyards in all of Champagne. This historic clos stands out for its full southern exposure, dramatic slopes ranging from 35 to 45 degrees, and its outcropping chalk, pure and radiant, which reflects light and promotes optimal grape ripening. From this unique setting come wines of remarkable intensity, depth, and mineral tension, capable of expressing with precision the singular character of the site.

The identity of Philipponnat’s cuvées is built around the Réserve Perpétuelle, a system that integrates wines from different vintages to ensure continuity, complexity, and stylistic consistency over time. This approach reflects a philosophy that combines respect for tradition with a capacity for evolution, with Pinot Noir taking center stage, bringing structure, elegance, and definition to each wine.
