Champagne Domaine La Borderie
La Confluente 2018
The Champagne Cuvée La Confluente by Domaine La Borderie brings together two parcels of the Côte des Bar, the lieux-dits Les Devoix in Merrey-sur-Arce and Val Moré in Bar-sur-Seine, whose confluence gives its name to this unconventional interpretation. It is a Blanc de Blancs with a curious, non-conformist soul, able to step away from the more classic codes of Champagne to embrace an artisanal and sincere viticulture, where Kimmeridgian limestone lends brightness and tension to every plot.
This edition, Vintage 2018, born from the expression of a single harvest without any vin de réserve, shows a clear predominance of Chardonnay grapes, joined by 20% Pinot Blanc (Cépage Oublié). Vinification and fermentation take place mainly in stainless steel tanks, with a 5% share carried out in fût de chêne, and after tirage comes a long maturation on the lees of at least 45 months before dégorgement, with a final dosage of 2 g/l, in an Extra Brut style.
On tasting, La Confluente 2018 reveals a citrusy and remarkably fresh profile, where golden apple and subtle herbaceous nuances outline a lively, taut aromatic picture of pleasant immediacy. On the palate it is freshness that leads, sustained by a fine, creamy bubble and an easy, engaging drinkability, in an agile and slender balance that carries toward a clean, lean finish of brilliant persistence, where lightness and tension coexist in rare harmony.
