Derrière Le Mont Aigu N°18 2018
The Champagne Derrière Le Mont Aigu N°18 by Pertois-Lebrun represents the Domaine’s most emblematic cuvée, a Blanc de Blancs crafted from 100% Chardonnay grown in a single 0.59-hectare parcel in the Grand Cru village of Chouilly. The vineyard, planted over fifty years ago on clay-limestone soils with a chalky subsoil, was personally selected by founder Paul Pertois, a testament to his deep connection with the terroir and its most authentic expression.
This edition N°18, 2018 harvest, was vinified 60% in fût de chêne and 40% in cuve en grès, with natural clarification, no filtration, and no added sulfites. A craft-driven, non-interventionist approach guides each step of the process, allowing the integrity of the fruit and the transparency of the land to shine through. The wine then rests on the lees for at least 4 years, with no final dosage – Brut Nature – to preserve a pure and vibrant profile.
On the palate, Derrière Le Mont Aigu N°18 reveals a fine, perfectly integrated mousse, and an intense bouquet of ripe citrus, white flowers, and delicate chalky nuances. The mouthfeel is tense and crystalline, supported by incisive minerality and refined persistence that enhance the purity of the Chardonnay and the elegance of the cru. A limited edition of just 1,335 bottles, this cuvée embodies precision, energy, and the true spirit of its terroir.
