The Champagne Belle Époque 2016 by Perrier-Jouët appears in this limited edition created by the Milanese design studio Formafantasma, conceived as part of the Cohabitare project dedicated to the biodiversity of the Maison's vineyard, where the Cocoon made of paper pulp and vine shoots wraps the bottle with butterflies, birds and the species of flora and fauna interwoven with the Japanese anemone that has always been its emblem. Inside it holds the Maison's cuvée de prestige, a rare and elegant Belle Époque that celebrates the art of blending in the floral style that has distinguished it since its very first appearance in 1964, in perfect harmony with the botanical passion and the veneration of nature typical of Art Nouveau that have accompanied its story from the very origins.
This edition, Vintage 2016, features a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir and 5% Meunier. Vinification takes place at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and continues with malolactic fermentation, followed by a long ageing on the lees of over 6 years, up to a final dosage in the Brut style that, allowing the purity of the fruit to emerge, completes the profile with balance and heightens the aromatic finesse of this Champagne.
On tasting, Belle Époque 2016 stands out for its finesse, elegance and balance rather than power, showing a beautiful golden colour that evokes the tones of a sunset, enlivened by a fine, creamy perlage. On the nose it opens with delicate floral notes of white flowers, followed by fruity hints of white peach and grapefruit that interweave with nuances of elderflower, cooked pear, cumin and green pepper. On the palate the freshness and finesse of the Chardonnay meet an elegant and harmonious texture, sustained by a mineral tension and a refined persistence, in full keeping with the floral and refined style that has accompanied the Maison from its origins.
