Champagne Nicolas Maillart
Montchenot 2020
The Champagne Montchenot by Nicolas Maillart takes its name from the small hamlet of the same name, part of the village of Villers-Allerand, classified Premier Cru and set in the southern part of the Montagne de Reims. Here the vines rest on soils rich in marl and limestone, a combination that gives the wine density, freshness and a marked mineral character, delivering a reading of the site where precision counts for more than any search for volume and immediate power.
This edition, Vintage 2020, is a Blanc de Noirs made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes, with vinification and maturation carried out entirely in oak barrels for around eight months, a stage able to enrich its structure and complexity without covering the fruit. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least four years, while the final dosage of 1 g/l, in Extra Brut style, highlights the purity and authenticity of the Villers-Allerand terroir.
On tasting, Montchenot 2020 shows a bright golden colour crossed by a fine and persistent perlage, while the nose releases scents of white-fleshed fruit and candied citrus woven with floral nuances, mineral touches and a subtle spiced note. On the palate it reveals freshness and precision, with a harmonious, well-proportioned body supported by a clear acidity and a long saline persistence that stretches the finish and defines its overall character.
