Champagne Nicolas Maillart
Les Loges
The Champagne Les Loges by Nicolas Maillart is a single-parcel Blanc de Noirs cuvée that embodies the Domaine's most radical reading of Pinot Noir. The wine comes to life from a single plot in the Premier Cru village of Villers-Allerand (lieu-dit), on the northern slopes of the Montagne de Reims, where Thanetian marl-limestone soils and the freshness of the altitude shape a fruit of rare mineral tension and pronounced verticality. In the vineyard the approach is manual and respectful of the plant's natural cycle, with measured interventions that allow the authentic voice of the cru to emerge in a suspended balance between generosity and precision.
This edition is born of a vinification and maturation carried out entirely in fûts de chêne for around eight months on fine lees, a choice that brings depth, aromatic complexity and a subtly creamy texture while preserving the integrity of the fruit. Malolactic fermentation is not performed, a decision that safeguards the natural freshness of the harvest and heightens its tension. After tirage, the wine ages in bottle on its own lees for around thirty months, consolidating its overall harmony and the finesse of the perlage. With no final dosage, in Brut Nature style, the wine reveals luminous energy and a saline tension that defines its stylistic signature.
On tasting, it shows a bright golden hue traversed by a fine, persistent perlage. The nose unfolds with ripe yellow fruit, pear and candied citrus, layered with delicate hints of vanilla, light honey and a floral trail leading to a chalky base. On the palate the attack is fresh and clearly drawn, followed by a structured, voluminous development supported by vibrant acidity and a cutting minerality that extends persistence. The finish is long, dry and remarkably precise, sculpted by a purity that restores Pinot Noir in its most essential form.
