Alter Ego Millèsime 2020

The Champagne Alter Ego by Grethen originates in Brouillet, in the very heart of the Vallée de l'Ardre, where the family tends and manages its own vineyards on clay-limestone soils converted to organic and biodynamic farming. The idea behind this wine is the full expression of Meunier, a variety often cast in a supporting role and here instead chosen as the sole protagonist, the voice of an intimate terroir that captures the light and minerality of a secluded, genuine side valley from the most authentic Champagne.

This edition, Vintage 2020, is a Blanc de Noirs made entirely from Meunier grapes sourced from the parcels surrounding the village. Vinification and fermentation take place spontaneously in fûts with a maturation of twenty-four months, without added sulphites and with no clarification or filtration. After tirage comes a minimum of thirty-six months of ageing on the lees, with no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style that preserves the purity and spontaneity of the fruit.

On the palate, Alter Ego 2020 stands out for its vibrant, deep texture, where gustatory tension dialogues with a broad, enveloping body shaped by its long passage in wood. Balance plays out between a saline freshness and a dense, well-stretched structure, leading to a long, savoury finish of great persistence, in which the authentic character of the variety expresses itself with coherence and clarity to the very last breath. Production in a limited run of 1,518 bottles.
