Champagne Elise Dechannes
Affinité 2015
The Champagne Affinité by Elise Dechannes expresses, in its very name, the harmonious encounter between the two great grape varieties of the Côte des Bar, an expression of Les Riceys, the southernmost village of Champagne, where Kimmeridgian soils of limestone and clay preserve the traces of ancient seabeds. Here the vigneronne tends her vineyards with a sensitive and respectful approach, aimed at letting the land express itself sincerely, giving life to a Champagne of great balance, in which the generosity of Pinot Noir and the finesse of Chardonnay converse naturally.
This edition, Vintage 2015, comes from a warm and sunny year that yielded ripe, fruit-rich grapes, and shows a prevalence of Pinot Noir grapes blended with 30% Chardonnay. Vinification and maturation take place entirely in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and aromatic purity of the wine, while after the tirage comes a long period of ageing on the lees of more than six years until the dégorgement, a time that brings complexity, finesse and depth to the aromatic profile. It is completed without final dosage, in the Brut Nature style, a choice that enhances its transparency and tension.
On tasting, Affinité 2015 shows a bright gold colour and a fine, creamy perlage, which accompanies an open and fresh nose where notes of ripe yellow fruit, quince and small red berries intertwine with hints of candied citrus, brioche, toasted hazelnut and a chalky background of great elegance. On the palate the entry is elegant and airy, supported by lively freshness and a harmonious structure that finds balance in the ripeness of the fruit and the complexity brought by long ageing, while the absence of dosage enhances a clear salinity that carries the wine through to a long, mineral and beautifully persistent finish. Production in a limited run of 2,382 bottles.
