Champagne Elise Dechannes
Liberté
The Champagne Liberté by Elise Dechannes carries in its name a promise kept, that of a parcel in Les Riceys free from all synthetic products since 2018, where only the vigneronne’s herbal infusions and intentions accompany the life of the vineyard. In the southernmost village of the Côte des Bar, on Kimmeridgian soils of limestone and marl rich in marine fossils, this single-parcel Blanc de Noirs reflects a careful and respectful approach, designed to let the terroir express itself naturally and sincerely.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, comes from a bright and generous Vintage that brought healthy, fully ripe grapes to the cellar, made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes picked from a single parcel. Vinification and maturation take place entirely in oak barrels, a step that brings depth, breadth and an enveloping texture without masking the purity of the fruit. After the tirage comes a period of ageing on the lees of around 24 months, which adds finesse and complexity to the aromatic profile, while at the time of dégorgement it is completed without final dosage, in the Brut Nature style, a choice that preserves its integrity and mineral tension.
On tasting, Liberté 2022 shows an intense gold colour with faint copper highlights and a fine, creamy perlage, which accompanies a broad and deep nose where notes of ripe red fruits, cherry and quince intertwine with hints of citrus, sweet spices, toasted hazelnut and a chalky background of limestone origin. On the palate the entry is full and vinous, supported by a solid structure and vibrant freshness that finds balance in the generosity of the fruit and the roundness brought by the oak, while the absence of dosage enhances a clear salinity that carries the wine through to a long, mineral and highly persistent finish. Production in a limited run of 927 bottles.
