Rouge "Les Copains du Bas-Chene" 2022
The Coteaux Champenois Les Copains du Bas-Chêne by Aurore & Florian Laval comes from Boursault, on the Rive Gauche of the Vallée de la Marne, from a historic plot planted in 1968 where the vines find in deep clays the material of a Pinot Noir of intense and sincere territorial expression. The name is a tribute to true friends and to the farming memory of this place, the idea of a red that is rare yet everyday, dedicated to those who recognise the value of simplicity.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, takes shape from a careful selection of Pinot Noir grapes and from vinification and maturation carried out with a craft-minded and minimal approach, able to preserve the purity of the fruit without interventions that would alter its profile. Ageing continues for twenty-two months in used barrique, a discreet wood now free of rough edges that brings complexity and elegant nuances without taking anything away from the wine's original energy.
On tasting, Les Copains du Bas-Chêne 2022 shows a fragrant and direct profile, in which small red fruits weave into hints of sweet spice, dried flowers and a subtle boisé trace that defines a clear and particularly appealing bouquet. On the palate the texture is juicy and flowing, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins and by a vibrant freshness that stretches the flavour development to a saline, well-extended finish of prolonged persistence.
