Champagne Voirin-Jumel
"Les Carelles"
The Champagne "Les Carelles" by Voirin-Jumel is an exclusive Blanc de Noirs, born from the homonymous Lieu-Dit, a vineyard of about 0.7 hectares planted with Pinot Noir in 1968 on the lower slopes of Mareuil-sur-AĂż. Thanks to the South/Southwest exposure, the grapes reach optimal ripeness, expressing the richness of the terroir. The silty, clayey and sandy soil, located near the banks of the Marne, gives the wine a distinctive character and a deep mineral imprint. This parcel, acquired by Paulette Jumel, second generation of the family, represents a historic heritage of the Domaine.
This edition, from the 2020 harvest, involves vinification and fermentation carried out according to the tradition of the vigneron and particular attention to the purity of the fruit. After tirage follows an ageing on the lees for a minimum of 36 months that completes its maturity. The final dosage of 5 g/l, in Brut style, accompanies with measure a wine that is already naturally harmonious, highlighting its clear saline vocation and the expressive transparency of the single cru.
On tasting, Les Carelles stands out for an intense aromatic profile, led by red and black fruits typical of the Pinot Noir from this area. On the palate it reveals citrusy freshness, natural elegance and a characteristic mineral savouriness, balanced by a refined and enveloping structure. A Blanc de Noirs that embodies the authentic soul of its terroir with finesse and balance, offering a pure and identity-driven Champagne, capable of telling the essence of Mareuil-sur-AĂż sip after sip.
