Comtes de Champagne 2014
The Comtes de Champagne 2014 represents a special chapter in the history of Maison Taittinger, an emblem of purity and absolute refinement. Created in 1952 as a declaration of love for the Côte des Blancs, this cuvée de prestige continues to embody the Maison’s philosophy: timeless elegance and faithfulness to the terroir. The 2014 vintage is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes harvested in the Grands Crus of Avize, Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, and Mesnil-sur-Oger, where chalky, mineral soils define its crystalline energy and refined character.
The 2014 harvest, which took place between September 12 and 15, was preceded by a mild winter and a dry spring, followed by a cool summer that encouraged balanced ripening and delicate aromas. During vinification, around 6–8% of the wines were aged in Burgundy oak barrels for 4–6 months, adding complexity and toasted nuances. After tirage, a long 10-year aging on the lees in the Maison’s chalk cellars brings depth and structure, while a dosage of 8–9 g/L preserves Taittinger’s classic style, harmonious and impeccably balanced.
On the palate, Comtes de Champagne 2014 reveals a brilliant golden hue with silvery reflections and ultra-fine, silky bubbles. The nose opens with chalky and saline notes, followed by hints of brioche, lemon meringue, hazelnut, and almond, evolving toward citrus, white flowers, and delicate stone fruit. The taste is taut yet enveloping, supported by vibrant freshness and a mineral tension that extends into a long, saline, and finely chiseled finish. A Blanc de Blancs of remarkable precision and extraordinary aging potential, destined to write new chapters in the legend of Taittinger.
