Champagne Deutz
William Deutz Millésime 2014
The Champagne William Deutz represents the highest expression of the classic style of Maison Deutz, a historic Champagne house founded in Aÿ in 1838 and long regarded as a benchmark for rigour, elegance, and stylistic consistency. Named after its founder William Deutz, this cuvée was conceived as a flagship expression of the Maison’s identity, produced only in vintages deemed suitable for a long and meaningful ageing trajectory. The grape selection favours the most distinguished Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites of Champagne, with a clear emphasis on Pinot Noir, the key variety shaping the wine’s structure and expressive depth.
This Millésime 2014 edition takes shape from a vintage marked by a complex yet balanced climatic pattern, with slow and progressive ripening culminating in a harvest of notable precision. The blend is dominated by Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay and a marginal proportion of Meunier, supporting overall harmony. Vinification follows a traditional, measured approach, followed by an extended lees ageing in the Maison’s cellars—an essential factor in defining aromatic complexity and the refinement of the mousse. The Brut dosage is carefully calibrated to preserve tension and balance without compromising the wine’s roundness.
In tasting, William Deutz Millésime 2014 reveals a fine and persistent perlage and a layered aromatic profile, marked by ripe yellow fruit, candied citrus, pastry notes, honey, and subtle spice nuances. On the palate, the structure is broad and precise, supported by well-integrated acidity that guides the progression with natural flow. The finish is long and coherent, delivering a sense of solidity and harmony, and confirming the vocation of Cuvée William Deutz for slow, measured evolution over time.
