Louis XV Millésime 2014

The Champagnes of De Venoge's exclusive Louis XV selection represent the cuvées de prestige dedicated to the great French monarch who, by the decree of 25 May 1728, authorised the wines of Champagne to be marketed and transported in bottle, finally allowing the bubbles to be preserved and thus marking the birth of Champagne as we know it today. Composed exclusively of grapes from villages classified as Grands Crus and crafted only in the finest vintages, the Louis XV cuvées represent the quintessence of the Maison's savoir-faire.

This edition, Louis XV Vintage 2014, stems from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in equal parts, sourced exclusively from villages classified as Grand Cru, with Pinot Noir from Verzenay and Bouzy and Chardonnay from Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, with no malolactic fermentation to preserve its tension and clarity. After tirage, it undergoes a long ageing on its own lees for around 9 years before dégorgement, with a final dosage of 6 g/l, in Brut style, that completes its profile while enhancing its finesse and precision.

On tasting, Louis XV Vintage 2014 stands out for its slender, chiselled structure, sustained by a lively freshness that sets its rhythm and enhances its mineral tension. The texture is fine and luminous, capable of combining depth and clarity in a cohesive whole of great elegance. On the palate it develops with rigour and progression, closing on a long, saline persistence in which minerality and finesse coexist with continuity and refinement.

De Venoge

The story of Maison de Venoge begins in Switzerland, on the shores of Lake Geneva, where the river Venoge flows into the lake and from which the family takes its name. Henri-Marc de Venoge left his homeland and settled in Champagne, founding "de Venoge & Cie" in 1837 at Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, one of the region's most renowned areas, together with his son Joseph. As early as 1838 the Maison achieved a true revolution: the first illustrated label in the history of Champagne, conceived to offer the nobility of the day not only a great wine, but a precious and elegant object to grace the centre of the table.

In 1851 the Cordon Bleu trademark was registered, an iconic label with a blue band chosen as the Maison's emblem to evoke both the river La Venoge and the Order of the Saint-Esprit, the most celebrated order of chivalry of the French monarchy. In 1858 the Cuvée Princes were born in honour of the Dutch royal house, still presented today in a bottle that recalls the decanters used by the European aristocracy, while 2005 saw the debut of the Cuvée de Prestige "Louis XV", a tribute to the sovereign who, on 25 May 1728, authorised the shipping of Champagne wines alone in bottle, marking the birth of modern Champagne.
