Les Folies de la Marquetterie

The Château de la Marquetterie, located in the heart of the Champagne wine-growing region, is a place of great charm and history. Before the French Revolution, it was the residence of writer Jacques Cazotte, author of Le Diable Amoureux, and a gathering place for philosophers and intellectuals of the Enlightenment during village fairs. In 1915, during the Battle of Champagne, General Castelnau used it as his headquarters, while as early as the 17th century, the Benedictine monk Frère Oudart contributed to discovering some of the secrets of Champagne fermentation.

The Champagne Folies de la Marquetterie pays homage to this history with a blend of 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir, sourced exclusively from the vineyards surrounding the estate, an area known as “Les Folies”, marking the beginning of the family’s adventure in the world of Champagne. Since then, the Maison Taittinger has expanded its vineyard holdings to include more than 35 different crus. Each parcel is vinified separately, with some cuvées aged in oak barrels, while a 5-year bottle aging process ensures the wine’s perfect balance.

On tasting, Folies de la Marquetterie presents itself with an intense yellow color with golden highlights, enhanced by fine and delicate bubbles. The bouquet is intense and fruity, featuring aromas of peach and apricot jam, complemented by toasted brioche and vanilla notes. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth, and fruity, with a dominant peach flavor, while the finish is expressive and distinctive, revealing delicate woody undertones.

Les Folies de la Marquetterie is a structured and powerful Champagne, distinguished by its richness and aromatic complexity. A true terroir wine, it pays tribute to the 18th century and is the perfect companion for robust dishes, such as roast meats and fish in sauce.
