Mepetit 2019

The Champagne Mepetit by Domaine Piollot comes from the Barséquanais area, born from a precise vision, that of enhancing Meunier in a territory where it represents less than 6% of the vineyard. The philosophy embraces certified organic and biodynamic farming, choices that amplify authenticity and expressive balance, giving voice to a minority grape variety interpreted with respect and an oenological vision capable of carving out an unmistakable identity.

This edition, Vintage 2019, comes exclusively from the Mepetit lieu-dit in the village of Polisot, with a south-east exposure and planted with vines approximately 45 years old on chalky and clayey soils. Vinification and fermentation take place in oak barrels with indigenous yeasts, giving an articulated texture to a Blanc de Noirs based on Meunier grapes. After tirage, the wine rests on the lees for at least four years and dégorgement is carried out with no dosage, in Brut Nature style, to enhance the expressive purity of the grape variety.

On tasting, Mepetit 2019 reveals a fine and penetrating perlage that opens onto a vibrant palate, where the fruity matter intertwines with nuances of candied citrus and light toasted notes. The structure is slender yet incisive, sustained by a taut acidity that dialogues with the roundness brought by the oak ageing, delivering depth without ever weighing down. The finish is long, saline and of rare clarity, with a persistence that reflects the authentic character of this interpretation of Meunier.

Piollot

The Domaine Piollot dates back to the 19th century with the first member of the family of winemakers, Athanase Piollot (1817-1906). Robert Piollot (second generation) expanded the ownership of the vineyards, which are mainly located in the village of Polisot (Côtes des Bars), and dedicated his life to selecting the best plants and then grafting them. But it was only in 1986 that his son Roland (third generation) started his own production and this was the beginning of marketing.

Very attentive to nature, Robert left his son Roland the image of a viticulture oriented to tillage and plant observation. In 2009, the company switched to organic farming to be fully certified in 2014 and then to biodynamic farming, very recently. Domaine Piollot is committed to following all the vineyards very closely on a daily basis, more than half of which are old vines over 40 years old.

Today, Piollot Champagnes perpetuate the traditions of the Champagne region and combine them with biodynamic viticulture. For them, it is a way of amplifying their authenticity and preserving their different balances. For them, biodynamic viticulture is more than a working method, it is a way of life, a way of listening and paying attention to the evolution of nature and its expression. The style of Domaine Piollot is based on fresh and refreshing, elegant and easy to drink Champagnes.
