Champagne Piollot
Champs Rayés 2018
The Champagne Champ Rayés from Domaine Piollot takes its name from the eponymous vineyard in Noé-les-Mallets, in the Côte des Bar, where veins of marl in contrasting colours trace visible stripes across the soil that inspired the parcel's denomination. This is a Blanc de Blancs cuvée offering an original reading of Chardonnay from the Barséquanais, a land of chalk and limestone, where the variety yields more solar and seductive profiles than those of the Côte des Blancs.
This edition, Vintage 2018, is crafted from Chardonnay grapes alone, obtained through mass selection and grown under certified organic farming on clay-limestone and marly soils. Vinification and fermentation take place in oak vats and barrels, enhancing the character of the fruit and its mineral tension. After tirage, the wine rests for at least four years on its lees, with no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style.
On tasting, Champ Rayés reveals itself with elegance and finesse, sustained by a creamy bead and a sharp acidity that shapes its texture. On the palate it unfolds with a chalky, nervy minerality, balanced by a vibrant concentration and a saline body that accompanies the gustatory evolution. The finish is chiselled and lingering, marked by floral echoes and a saline persistence of rare precision that defines its stylistic signature.
