Champagne Paul Bara
Grand Millésime 2018
The Champagne Grand Millésime by Paul Bara is released only when the year offers the right conditions, and it is at Bouzy, a Grand Cru village from the Montagne de Reims, that this choice finds its clearest reason, in a terroir of clay and limestone where Pinot Noir shows fullness and drive without forcing. The Grand Millésime is the most ambitious version of that calling, conceived as the picture of a single harvest and entrusted to a very long rest that slowly prepares its character.
This edition, Vintage 2018, brings together 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay grapes in a sunny year that secured full ripeness without giving up acidic tension. Vinification and fermentation take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel to safeguard aromatic purity, while after tirage comes a very long ageing on the lees, with about eight years in bottle before dégorgement.
On tasting, Grand Millésime 2018 shows a luminous golden yellow crossed by greenish reflections and by a delicate and persistent perlage, while the nose moves between citrus, honey and dried flowers with a slow, orderly and finely composed progression. On the palate it reveals fullness and tension at the same time, with hints of wild strawberry and a saline minerality that carries the length towards a deep and precise finish of lasting aromatic persistence.
