Bouzy Millésime 2021

The Champagne Bouzy Millésime by Laherte Frères originates from a precise interpretation of the Grand Cru terroir of Bouzy, in the Montagne de Reims, among the villages most suited to Pinot Noir. This Blanc de Noirs takes shape from two south-facing vineyards planted in the 1980s, where the chalky soils contribute to a clear and vertical mineral tension. Here too, Aurélien Laherte’s vision is based on a respectful approach to the living ecosystem and on an essential winemaking philosophy, aimed at expressing the terroir with authenticity and coherence.

This first edition, Millésime 2021, is vinified and fermented in wood without undergoing malolactic fermentation, in order to preserve freshness and precision. After tirage, it ages on the lees for at least 36 months, developing complexity and depth. The final dosage of around 2 g/l, in Extra Brut style, maintains a dry and tense profile, allowing the identity of the Pinot Noir and the cru to emerge with clarity.

On the palate, Bouzy Millésime 2021 shows a broad yet dynamic profile, where notes of ripe red fruits, citrus and light spicy nuances intertwine with toasty hints. It reveals structure and substance, supported by incisive freshness and a saline texture that leads to a long and precise finish, offering a convincing balance between intensity and verticality.

Founded in 1889 by Jean-Baptiste Laherte in Chavot-Courcourt, in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, Maison Laherte Frères today stands as one of the most dynamic realities in Champagne. Since 2005, the estate has been led by Aurélien Laherte, who carries on the family heritage with a natural approach and a strong focus on the identity of the terroir, while preserving tradition and authenticity.

The Laherte family vineyards are located mainly in the Coteaux Sud d’Épernay, a subregion that shares characteristics with both the Côte des Blancs and the Vallée de la Marne, thanks to its diverse and complex soils. In total, the estate covers 10.5 hectares divided into more than 75 parcels: around seven hectares are farmed under certified biodynamics, with the remainder cultivated following organic or sustainable practices. Due to the fragmentation of the family holdings, Aurélien has registered as a négociant manipulant, allowing him to integrate all of the family’s grapes into his blends.

In the vineyard, the work follows an approach respectful of natural balance, using plant infusions, cover crops, and minimal tillage to preserve the microbial life of the soil. In addition to Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay, Aurélien also vinifies several cépages oubliés, such as Petit Meslier, Arbanne, Pinot Blanc, and Fromenteau, enriching both the biodiversity and the expressive range of the estate’s vineyards. In the cellar, his philosophy favors gentle vinifications and minimal intervention, resulting in Champagnes that are vibrant, energetic, and full of personality.
