Champagne Jean Josselin
Audace Rosé R.22
The Champagne Audace Rosé R. by Jean Josselin tells a personal reading of rosé from Gyé-sur-Seine, in the far south of the Côte des Bar, where the work in the vineyard follows natural grass cover, soil tillage, gentle pruning, thinning and careful palissage marking the rhythm of the year. The vines of the Lieu-Dit Beauregard grow on clay-limestone soils rich in Kimmeridgian marl, a matrix that gives Pinot Noir the mineral salinity typical of this land.
This edition R.22, from the 2022 harvest, is made entirely from Pinot Noir grapes and takes shape through a craft vinification with a gentle maceration of around thirty-four hours, with no fining or filtration so that the natural identity of the wine remains untouched. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least twenty-four months, while the final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, defines its dry and taut profile.
On tasting, Audace Rosé R.22 shows a pale pink crossed by coppery reflections and opens on a range of small red fruits, where raspberry and wild strawberry weave together with a note of blood orange and a faintly spicy hint that widens its depth. On the palate it reveals a slender and well-strung structure, with a clear salinity that supports the freshness and carries a precise finish, fruity in outline and long-lasting in its mineral persistence.
