Alliance R.22
The Champagne Alliance R.22 by Jean Josselin brings two grape varieties into dialogue around a single idea of balance, the one that in Gyé-sur-Seine, in the Côte des Bar, joins the generosity of Pinot Noir to the verticality of Chardonnay. The vines of the Lieu-Dit Davasgné, farmed through a sustainable viticulture, grow on clay-limestone soils with subsoils of Kimmeridgian limestone and marl, to which the saline, iodine-tinged notes typical of the wines of this area are owed.
This edition, from the 2022 harvest, shows a predominance of Pinot Noir grapes at 70%, joined by Chardonnay at 30%, with a parcel-by-parcel vinification in steel completed by malolactic fermentation and free of any fining or filtration. After tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least twenty-four months, while the final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, defines its dry profile without interfering with the harmony of the whole.
On tasting, Alliance R.22 shows a pale golden yellow crossed by a fine, creamy mousse, while the nose stays fresh and clear, opening on acacia, quince and a touch of mint that lightens its aromatic profile further. On the palate it reveals a well-built balance, where the elegant fruit of Pinot Noir gives volume and a continuous freshness holds the texture in tension, carrying a saline finish, precise and of long mineral persistence.
