L’Autentique

The Champagne L’Autentique by Éric Taillet is a Blanc de Blancs born as a personal and rigorous interpretation of Chardonnay by a vigneron historically associated with Meunier. The grapes come from four vineyards located around the village of Baslieux-sous-Châtillon, in the Vallée de la Marne, a less conventional setting for the variety yet one capable of delivering an energetic and strongly identity-driven expression. Clay-limestone soils and vines around 20 years old help define a profile that is taut, luminous, and deeply rooted in its terroir.

This edition results from an equal blend of the 2018 and 2019 harvests, with vinification carried out exclusively in stainless steel to preserve aromatic precision and expressive purity. After bottling, the wine undergoes lees ageing for at least 48 months, a key phase in building structure and overall balance. The low dosage of 2 g/l places the cuvée in an Extra Brut style that is essential and restrained, fully aligned with the producer’s philosophy.

On tasting, L’Autentique impresses with its aromatic purity and the elegance with which Chardonnay is interpreted. The nose opens with fresh fruit aromas, followed by more mature, subtly evolving nuances. On the palate, it unfolds with freshness, salinity, and a vibrant tension, supported by a precise texture and a linear persistence, delivering an overall impression of balance and remarkable expressive clarity.

The story of Eric Taillet, as often happens in the world of wine, is one handed down from father to son: from father Daniel, who began to produce his first bottles in 1961, to his son Eric, who took over the reins of production in 1995 and who still heads the company today. The Domaine Éric Taillet is located in Baslieux-sous-Châtillon, in a beautiful area within Vallée de la Marne where the terroir is composed of clay, marl and sand, and is rich in nutrients. The production is made to measure, which certainly holds the eye to an accurate oenology and high quality: only 5.7 hectares of vineyards that extend over 6 municipalities adjacent to the Domaine.

Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier are cultivated here, but it is Meunier that probably has the most important role in the production of Éric Taillet: in many of the cuvées the presence of Meunier is predominant and just some of the Blanc de Meunier as Le Bois de Binson or Bansionensi have built the reputation of Champagnes by Éric Taillet. But certainly also Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have their importance for Éric Taillet, both in the blendings of great cuvées such as Sur Le Grand Marais, and in purity, as in the case of L'Autentique.
