Grand Millésime 2008

The Champagne Grand Millésime by Corbon represents the highest expression of this small Avize estate, a Blanc de Blancs cuvée conceived to tell the potential of great years through the patient filter of time. The grapes come mainly from Grand Cru classified vineyards of the Côte des Blancs, where the chalky subsoil brings tension and drive, while craft-driven work in the vineyard, free from pesticides and herbicides, allows the wine to convey depth, elegance and character with sincerity.

This edition, Vintage 2008, is the child of one of the greatest years in modern Champagne, a cool season closed by a sunny and breezy September that gave the grapes ripeness, vibrant acidity and extraordinary ageing potential, enhanced by vinification and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without malolactic fermentation, filtration or fining. After tirage comes a very long ageing on the lees of over 17 years, which turns the tension of the vintage into complexity and finesse.

On tasting, the Grand Millésime 2008 shows itself luminous in the glass, with a refined and persistent mousse and a complex nose, where ripe citrus and lemon zest weave together with notes of toasted hazelnut, grilled bread and a subtle chalky hint. On the palate the lively acidity typical of the vintage supports an elegant, compact and silky structure, which unfolds with balance and precision towards a long, toasty and saline finish of great persistence.
