Champagne Bertrand-Delespierre
Villedommange 2019
The Champagne Villedommange by Bertrand-Delespierre gives voice to the Meunier of one of the finest Premier Cru villages of the Petite Montagne, capturing its freshness and most authentic character. The grapes come from a single parcel planted in 1986 and 1991, on sandy silt soils facing north and north-west, a setting that encourages slow ripening and natural acid tension. Spontaneous grass cover and mechanical ploughing support careful viticulture, designed to express with precision the identity of this grape variety and the place it comes from.
This edition, Vintage 2019, comes from a hot, dry year that delivered concentrated grapes with a surprisingly lively acidity. This Blanc de Noirs, made entirely from Meunier grapes and from the first-pressing juice alone, is vinified and matured in stainless steel, without malolactic fermentation, fining or filtration. After tirage, the wine ages on the lees for a minimum of 60 months, while the final dosage of 1 g/l, in Extra Brut style, highlights the purity of the grape.
On tasting, Villedommange 2019 shows a bright, pale gold colour and a fine, persistent perlage. The nose recalls citrus, crisp apple, apricot and white peach, enriched by spicy hints and a mineral, earthy imprint reminiscent of wet clay. On the palate it reveals a lean, precise structure, supported by vibrant freshness and a taut, savoury texture, in which the near absence of dosage highlights the purity of the fruit. The finish is long and dry, with citrus and mineral returns that close in a rigorous balance between energy and depth. Production in a limited run of 1,993 bottles.
