The Champagne Millésime 2020 by Benoît Lahaye interprets a bright, sun-filled vintage, marked by full ripeness and remarkable balance, selected for the quality and concentration of the grapes. The cuvée is born in the lieu-dit “Le Mont de Tauxières”, near the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, where old vines sink their roots into the clay-limestone soils of the Montagne de Reims. This setting lends the wine precision, structure, and a clearly defined mineral imprint, offering an authentic expression of Lahaye’s terroir.
This Millésime 2020 edition is built around an assemblage dominated by Pinot Noir, complemented by 20% Chardonnay, both sourced from the same parcel. Vinification in wood, carried out with an artisanal and non-interventionist approach, includes a partially blocked malolactic fermentation to preserve tension and freshness. After bottling, the wine ages for over four years on the lees, developing complexity and depth. The final dosage, below 3 g/l and in an Extra Brut style, enhances the purity of the vintage and the transparent expression of the vineyard.
In tasting, Millésime 2020 shows a luminous golden-yellow color with a fine, regular perlage. The aromatic profile is broad and well-defined, with notes of ripe yellow fruit, citrus, and floral nuances, followed by hints of almond, light spices, and subtle toasted accents. On the palate it reveals structure and fullness, balanced by a saline minerality that brings energy and precision. The finish is long and consistent, closing with a harmonious, deeply territorial character.
