Champagne Benoît Lahaye
Millésime "Vinothèque" 2014
The Champagne Millésime by Benoît Lahaye stands as the essence of a singular year, selected for the exceptional quality of the harvested fruit, where biodynamic viticulture and respect for the natural pace of the vines have guided every gesture for over twenty years. The grapes come from Lieu-Dit Le Mont de Tauxières, a parcel of old vines lying on clay-limestone soils at the edge of the Bouzy Grand Cru, able to combine the sunny generosity of the Montagne de Reims with a mineral tension that time never stops deepening.
This edition, the "Vinothèque", Vintage 2014, shows a clear prevalence of Pinot Noir grapes joined by 20% Chardonnay, with vinification and maturation carried out in fût de chêne and with malolactic fermentation only partly completed in order to preserve drive and aromatic vivacity. After tirage comes a long ageing on the lees of more than nine years, which builds layering and a silky texture, while the final dosage of 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, steps in discreetly at dégorgement to leave the vintage all of its clarity.
On tasting, Millésime "Vinothèque" appears with a bright golden yellow hue crossed by a fine and persistent perlage, while the nose alternates ripe fruit and candied citrus with hints of acacia honey, toasted almond, dried flowers and a clear chalky imprint of great finesse. On the palate the structure is full and creamy, supported by a vibrant freshness and a saline savouriness that the long ageing amplifies, through to a deep and harmonious finish of remarkable citrus persistence.
