Le Jardin de la Grosse Pierre 2020
The Champagne Le Jardin de La Grosse Pierre 2020 by Benoît Lahaye is a rare and distinctive cuvée, the result of the assemblage of the 7 grape varieties authorized in Champagne: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier, and the rare varieties, the so-called “cépages oubliés”, such as Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, Petit Meslier, and Fromenteau. The grapes come entirely from a single parcel (Lieu-Dit) planted in 1923 in Bouzy (Grand Cru) by Benoît’s great-grandfather, a testimony to a historic viticultural heritage.
The 2020 harvest was vinified and fermented in oak barrels, in line with Lahaye’s artisanal philosophy. After tirage, the wine rested for about 36 months on its lees before being released as Brut Nature, in order to highlight to the fullest the aromatic complexity and the pure expression of Bouzy’s terroir.
On the palate, Le Jardin de La Grosse Pierre 2020 shows an intense and multi-layered profile: the nose offers notes of white flowers, citrus, stone fruit, and aromatic herbs, enriched by mineral and chalky nuances typical of the Grand Cru. The palate is taut and vibrant, driven by a crisp freshness and a long, savory, and elegant finish.
