Le Mont de Tauxières 2020
The Champagne Le Mont de Tauxières by Georges Remy takes its name from the very plot that gives it life, a single lieu-dit planted in 1971 in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, in the Montagne de Reims. Here the chalk expresses itself with particular generosity and draws a clear, recognisable minerality, which the vigneron has chosen to convey without mediation through old vines, capable of a deep reading of the soil. It is a project of extreme selection, born from the idea that a single plot, observed with patience for more than fifty years, can say everything there is to know about a terroir.
This edition, Vintage 2020, brings together Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes in equal parts, with vinification and maturation in new and second-fill fût de chêne, a choice that gives breadth and space without ever overwhelming the tension of the fruit. After the tirage comes an ageing of more than 42 months on the lees, a long span of time that builds an aromatic complexity of great definition, measured against the vertical nature of this terroir.
On tasting, Le Mont de Tauxières 2020 opens on a fresh and buttery nose, with hints of brioche and white fruit interwoven with an intense mineral expression. On the palate the balance is remarkable, supported by a vibrant freshness that runs through the whole development and by an elegant structure that is never overstated. The persistence is long and clear, closing on a finale still marked by the saline signature of this single terroir. Production in a limited run of 1,199 bottles.
