The Champagne Chromatique by Stéphane Regnault is a Blanc de Blancs made from 100% Chardonnay, the fruit of several parcels on chalky terroir around the villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, among the most prestigious Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs. The name recalls the chromatic scale in music, which uses all the notes, because the cuvée brings together a little of every plot to render a complete portrait of the terroir, where old vines between forty and sixty years of age give the Chardonnay an expression of rare purity, verticality and refinement.

This edition, harvest 2022, is enriched with 30% vin de réserve perpétuelle and takes shape through a spontaneous vinification and fermentation carried out partly in stainless-steel tanks and partly in used oak barrels, with the malolactic fermentation left free to occur. After tirage comes an ageing of at least 30 months on its own lees, which develops aromatic complexity and gustatory precision. The final dosage of 2 g/l, in Extra Brut style, keeps its marked mineral imprint and the elegance of its style perfectly intact.

On tasting, Chromatique reveals a fine, crisp profile, animated by a silky bubble and an aromatic range in which fresh citrus and white flowers intertwine with the chalky notes typical of the Grand Cru. On the palate it shows itself balanced and of great savouriness, supported by an incisive mineral tension that accompanies its texture, leading to a long, saline finish of rare persistence, an authentic reflection of the depth of the terroir from which it is born.
