Champagne Ruinart
Dom Ruinart Magnum 2009
The Champagne Dom Ruinart by Maison Ruinart is the prestige cuvée of the oldest House in Champagne, founded in 1729, conceived as a tribute to Dom Thierry Ruinart and as the true quintessence of Chardonnay shaped by time. A Blanc de Blancs crafted exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards, it expresses all the depth of a long maturation in the chalk crayères dug beneath Reims and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a reflection of a rich palette of Champagne terroirs and of that pursuit of elegance and finesse that has accompanied the House from its very origins.
This Magnum edition, Vintage 2009, comes from a sunny year in which a spring marked by hail, rain and wind gave way to a dry summer that brought the grapes to full ripeness, giving life to a Blanc de Blancs of pure Grand Cru Chardonnay, 82% from the Côte des Blancs with the villages of Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Avize and Chouilly and the remaining 18% from the Montagne de Reims with the village of Sillery. Vinification and fermentation take place at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and continue with malolactic conversion before a bottling under cork that preserves aromatic freshness, and after the tirage the wine undergoes a minimum of 13 years ageing on the lees before manual dégorgement, while the final dosage of 4 g/l, in Brut style, enhances the crystalline purity of the wine.
In tasting, Dom Ruinart Blanc 2009 stands out for its liveliness, refinement and complexity rather than for power, showing a radiant robe of deep gold enriched by almond-green highlights and animated by a fine, persistent effervescence. On the nose it opens wide and sunny, with aromas of ripe fruit and citrus interweaving with delicate floral notes and refined toasted nuances of hazelnut, almond and pastry born of the long rest in the cellar. On the palate the silky, chiselled texture of Chardonnay combines drive and depth, sustained by a savoury freshness and a long, subtle finish, where the volume of the magnum format amplifies the aromatic richness and gives this vintage an even broader and more majestic breath.
