Dom Ruinart Rosé 2009

The Champagne Dom Ruinart Rosé by Maison Ruinart is the rare and precious rosé interpretation of the House, an exceptional cuvée born in 1962 that bears the name of the monk Dom Thierry Ruinart and celebrates his enlightened vision. The finesse and elegance of Chardonnay, the hallmark of the Maison, are enriched here by the fruity, vinous dimension of Pinot Noir, in a refined dialogue that springs entirely from the most gifted Grand Cru and finds fulfilment in the long rest within the chalk crayères dug beneath Reims and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

This edition, Vintage 2009, is the fruit of a sunny year in which an uneven flowering gave way to a dry summer and an ideal ripening up to the mid-September harvest, taking shape from a blend of 85% Chardonnay grapes, coming mainly from the Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs with the villages of Cramant, Avize, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger together with selected vines of Sillery in the Montagne de Reims, and from 15% Pinot Noir vinified as red wine from the Grand Cru of Aÿ. Vinification and fermentation take place at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and continue with malolactic conversion, while after the tirage the wine undergoes 11 years ageing on the lees before dégorgement. The final dosage of 4 g/l, in Brut style, completes the profile with balance and enhances the spicy richness of this Rosé Champagne.

In tasting, Dom Ruinart Rosé 2009 stands out for its vinosity, elegance and complexity rather than for lightness, showing a delicate pink robe run through with raspberry highlights and animated by a fine, velvety effervescence. On the nose it opens spicy and floral, with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger interweaving with lively citrus such as blood orange and kumquat, followed by suggestions of violet, peony and an iodised nuance of oyster shell. On the palate the enveloping, silky attack meets notes of juicy red fruits such as pomegranate and redcurrant, sustained by a saline minerality and an intense, finely almond-tinged finish, where the sunny ripeness of the vintage blends with the crystalline drive that makes every creation of this Rosé unmistakable.
