Champagne Ruinart
R de Ruinart Magnum
The Champagne R de Ruinart is the entry cuvée and the most immediate expression of the style of the oldest Champagne House, founded in 1729 — a harmonious Brut in which the freshness of Chardonnay converses with the structure of Pinot Noir and the fruit of Meunier. Born from the diversity of the Champagne terroirs, it reflects with luminosity and elegance the pursuit of balance and refinement that has accompanied the House for almost three centuries, in a profile that combines accessibility and finesse.
This edition, in magnum format, takes shape from a blend led by Pinot Noir, with a share of between 40% and 45%, completed by 40% Chardonnay and a proportion of Meunier of between 10% and 15%, sourced from a range of 40 to 50 crus from the terroirs of the Côte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims, and enriched by a proportion of between 20% and 30% of vin de réserve from previous vintages. Vinification and fermentation take place at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks and continue with malolactic fermentation, followed by a minimum of 30 months of ageing in the cellar, up to a final dosage of 9 g/l in the Brut style, which rounds out the profile with balance and heightens the aromatic roundness of this Champagne. The magnum format, thanks to its larger volume, encourages a slow and gradual ageing that enhances its complexity and prolongs its vitality.
On tasting, R de Ruinart stands out for its balance, harmony and liveliness rather than its power, revealing a sparkling golden-yellow robe animated by a sustained and persistent effervescence. The nose opens with delicate fruity notes of russet apple and apricot, followed by hints of hazelnut and fresh almond, with a touch of complexity lent by elderflower and coriander seed, which then give way to intense nuances of brioche and biscuit. On the palate, a frank attack meets a round, fleshy texture, rich in ripe fruit and wrapped in a soft persistence that closes on the freshness typical of Chardonnay — a pleasing and versatile whole that captures all the immediacy of the Maison style.
