Champagne Ruinart
Blanc Singulier Edition 19
The Champagne Blanc Singulier by Ruinart is the most contemporary creation of the oldest Maison in Champagne, founded in 1729, a collection of editions that tell the story of Chardonnay as a witness to climate change. Born from a new oenological vision built on an original blend and on a réserve perpétuelle, this cuvée reveals a distinctive aromatic repertoire, with an intense texture and a fruitier, spicier profile, yet without ever giving up the signature freshness that has shaped the house style from its very origins.
This Edition 19, born from the 2019 harvest, is completed by 23% drawn from a réserve perpétuelle kept half in oak foudres and half in stainless steel vats, and takes shape from a blend of Chardonnay alone gathered across some twenty crus in the Montagne de Reims, the Côte des Blancs, the Grande Vallée de la Marne, the Vallée du Petit Morin, the Sézannais and the Vitryat. Vinification and fermentation take place at controlled temperature in stainless steel vats and continue with malolactic fermentation, followed by 48 months of ageing on its own lees with no final dosage, in a Brut Nature style, which lets the purity of the fruit emerge and rounds out the profile by enhancing the crystalline minerality of this Blanc de Blancs shaped by a vintage of record summer heat.
In tasting, Blanc Singulier Édition 19 stands out for tension, energy and verticality rather than opulence, showing a bright golden-yellow robe streaked with light green reflections and enlivened by a lively, finely chiselled perlage. On the nose it opens with juicy, sweet white fruit such as nectarine and nashi pear, followed by lightly candied yellow citrus that adds a bright citrus note, enriched by nuances of white flowers, honeysuckle and honey and a hint of smoky spice such as saffron. On the palate the taut, crystalline attack pairs a saline texture with a sculpted structure, sustained by chalky minerality and a bone-dry finish of long persistence, where the Maison's adaptation to an evolving climate translates into a wine of surprising drive and extraordinary ageing potential.
