Champagne Julien Prélat
Les Vignes Basses
The Champagne Les Vignes Basses by Julien Prélat is born in Celles-sur-Ource, in the Côte des Bar, an area where Meunier finds one of its most refined and contemporary expressions. The grapes come from vines planted in 1986 on Kimmeridgian soils, composed of marl and limestone, which lend the wine a vibrant mineral tension and a distinctive saline depth. In these low and cool parcels, the temperate exposures promote slow and harmonious ripening, allowing the variety to express with precision the elegant and authentic character of the Celles-sur-Ource terroir.
This edition, based on the 2022 vintage, is made from 100% Meunier sourced from these historic estate parcels. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, without fining or filtration, in order to preserve the fruit transparency and vitality of the terroir. It then undergoes 24 months of aging on the lees, which imparts creaminess and aromatic complexity. The final dosage of 3 g/l, in Extra Brut style, enhances its purity and tasting tension, offering an essential and precise interpretation of Meunier.
On the palate, Les Vignes Basses shows a bright golden hue with fine and persistent bubbles. The bouquet opens with notes of crisp pear, white peach, wildflowers, and fresh almond, followed by a subtle chalky-mineral trace. On tasting, it reveals energy and precision, a creamy texture balanced by vertical freshness, and a saline persistence that gracefully extends the finish. A 100% Meunier of great purity, balance, and character, reflecting the artisan sensibility and contemporary vision of Julien Prélat. Produced in a limited edition of only 2,214 bottles, 60 magnums, and 10 jeroboams.
