The Champagne Rosé L’Éclatante 2016 by J.M. Goulard is a rare example of rosé de saignée made from 100% Meunier, vinified with both rigor and artisanal sensitivity. The grapes come from parcels located in the Massif de Saint-Thierry, northwest of Reims, where sandy soils and the southeast exposure of the vineyards help develop a rich and well-defined aromatic profile. The 2016 harvest, marked by balanced climatic conditions, allowed for perfectly ripe fruit. The skin maceration gives the wine its deep rosé color, while the minimum 42-month aging on lees and a low dosage of 5 g/l – Extra Brut – enhance its elegance and depth.

On tasting, L’Éclatante 2016 reveals a bright and crystalline copper-pink hue, animated by a fine and consistent mousse. The nose is striking for its aromatic vivacity: ripe strawberry, juicy cherry, and marshmallow notes intertwine with floral tones and a subtle spicy hint. On the palate, the attack is assertive, with a dynamic freshness that supports a delicious flavor profile, dominated by hints of strawberry shortcake and a pleasant saline finish.

Produced in an extremely limited edition – only 736 bottles – this Champagne offers a personal and distinctive interpretation of Meunier in rosé, reflecting the dedication and precision of Damien Goulard. An authentic expression, conceived for those in search of exclusivity and character.

The winemaking adventure of the Goulard family begins with Paul Goulard, a farmer and winemaker, who lays the foundation of the current estate. In 1978, his son Jean-Marie, together with his wife Martine, establishes the winery, focusing on traditional viticulture and quality wines. Their children, Sébastien, Sylvain, and Damien, grow up among the vineyards, harvests, and loyal customers. Since 2012, Damien has been leading the estate, combining tradition with a contemporary vision.

Today, Damien works with deep attention to the Massif de Saint-Thierry, practicing thoughtful viticulture without chemical treatments, and is in the process of organic and biodynamic certification. Parcel-based vinifications and the mindful use of wood allow the identity of the place to be fully expressed. At the heart of his philosophy lies the geology of the land, which guides every decision in both vineyard and cellar.

The Massif de Saint-Thierry offers a heterogeneous terroir with sandy-clay and clay-limestone soils, ideal for precision viticulture. Thanks to a favorable microclimate, Meunier, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay find perfect conditions to express their character. Damien’s wines are distinguished by moderate acidity, elegance, and fine minerality — a distinctive signature of both the land and his craftsmanship.
