Champagne Hugues Godmé
Montagne Nord
The Champagne Montagne Nord by Hugues Godmé is a blend showing a predominance of Pinot Noir at 60%, completed by 40% Chardonnay, an expression of the northern and cooler side of the Montagne de Reims. The grapes come exclusively from Verzy and Verzenay, two Grand Cru villages, where the clay-limestone soils give the wine a firm structure and a marked mineral tension, conveying the mark of a biodynamic approach attentive to the vitality of the soil and to the faithfulness of the terroir of origin.
This edition, based on the 2014 harvest and enriched by a generous share of vin de réserve, is vinified and fermented in fût de chêne, without any fining or filtration, in an approach that preserves the depth and authenticity of the material. After tirage comes an ageing of over six years on its own lees, which brings complexity and an enveloping texture, at the end of which the wine remains without final dosage, in a Brut Nature style, a choice that gives full voice to the intensity of the fruit and to the character of the two Grand Cru.
On the palate, it shows an intense and expressive profile, where the vinosity of Pinot Noir intertwines with fruity hints and a chalky note that amplifies its depth. The palate is broad and coherent, sustained by a vibrant freshness and a very fine bubble that accompanies a long and dynamic development, closing on a saline and deep finish that confirms the balance and expressive rigour of this cuvée of bold character.
