Champagne François Secondé

Intégral Zéro Dosage

The Champagne Intégral Zéro Dosage by François Secondé is a pure and crystalline expression of the Montagne de Reims, the result of a blend of Pinot Noir (66%) and Chardonnay (34%) parcels located in four prestigious Grand Cru villages, Sillery, Mailly-Champagne, Puisieulx and Verzenay. It is born from an artisanal interpretation that forgoes the liqueur d'expédition in order to restore the most authentic essence of the chalky terroir and the profound minerality that stems from it.

This edition, from the 2023 harvest, is enriched by 30% of vin de réserve drawn from a réserve perpétuelle begun in 1982, a living and layered memory of the terroir. Vinification and fermentation take place in stainless steel, with the malolactic carried out to lend greater depth. After the tirage comes a patient ageing on the lees for a minimum of 18 months before dégorgement, without final dosage, in a Brut Nature style.

On tasting, Intégral Zéro Dosage reveals itself taut, vertical and of rare precision. On the palate emerge notes of citrus, green apple, yellow-fleshed fruit and a vibrant saline trace, accompanied by a fine bubble and a creamy texture. The structure is slender, the balance impeccable, while the chalky, iodine-tinged finish stretches out into a long, pure and expressive persistence.

After a brief youth experience in the vineyard of another producer, at the beginning of the 1970s François Secondé bought his first small vineyard in Sillery, a renowned Grand Cru territory in the Montagne de Reims area. In 1976 François, with the help of his wife Anne-Marie, started his first artisanal production. Currently there are 5 hectares of vineyards: 2⁄3 planted in Pinot Noir and 1⁄3 Chardonnay, with average age of the vineyards of about 40 years, all located in Sillery, Verzenay, Mailly and Puilsieux.

Since 2009, the technical management has been in the hands of Jérôme Groslambert who today has the difficult task of passing on to future generations François' philosophy, who recently passed away. The terroir in Sillery and Verzenay is extraordinarily suitable for Pinot Noir, but Chardonnay also benefits from a cooler average climate than the rest of the Montagne de Reims. The resulting Champagnes have a strong character and great depth.
