Elixir 2016

The Champagne Elixir by Geoffroy tells the generous soul of the Rive Droite in the Vallée de la Marne, where the family has cultivated its own vines for generations across Cumières, Hautvillers, Damery and Fleury-la-Rivière. Conceived as a more indulgent and enveloping expression, this demi-sec arises from a vision seeking harmony between sweetness and substance, celebrating the fruit of a terroir carved by the river and by the slopes facing the midday sun, in a deep bond with a landscape devoted to the generosity of conviviality.

This edition, harvest 2016, brings together in its blend Pinot Noir grapes alongside Meunier and Chardonnay. Vinification and maturation take place between stainless steel and wooden barrels, enhancing the roundness of the Meunier and the structure of the clay-limestone soils of the Rive Droite. After the tirage comes an ageing on the lees of at least 3 years, while the final dosage of 35 g/l, in a Demi-Sec style, builds that rare balance between the sweetness and the substance of the wine, where the sugar blends into the body without ever prevailing.

On the palate, Elixir stands out for a soft and beguiling balance, where the sweetness never overwhelms the freshness but accompanies it with measure. The structure is broad and generous, sustained by a ripe substance that envelops the palate with fullness and harmony. The persistence stretches out with elegance, leaving a silky and finely modulated trail that confirms the gourmand nature of this cuvée. A long and refined finish seals a profile where roundness and vitality reach a complete synthesis.

The story of Champagne Geoffroy begins in the Premier Cru village of Cumières, among the most authentic terroirs of the Grande Vallée de la Marne, where the family has tended the vines since the early seventeenth century. Vignerons from one generation to the next, in the early 1950s Roger Geoffroy chose to vinify and bottle his own Champagne, giving rise to the brand. His son René expanded the Domaine with new plots, before Jean-Baptiste, a graduate in viticulture and oenology, took over at the end of the 1980s.

Since 2007, the new estate in Aÿ has allowed an entirely gravity-fed vinification, capable of preserving the integrity of the grapes and bringing out the character of each plot, vinified separately with meticulous attention. This care stems from a clear conviction, for in Jean-Baptiste's eyes the terroir is the true protagonist, and more than the grape variety it is Cumières that lends identity to his Champagnes and Coteaux Champenois. A vision that today looks to the future, as in 2024 the torch passes to the new generation, with Sacha Geoffroy working alongside her father in running the estate, ensuring a continuity built on excellence and innovation.

Across the family's fifteen hectares, all Premier Cru, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Meunier and two forgotten varieties, Petit Meslier and Arbane, ripen side by side, sharing the same exposure and care and heightening the unique imprint of the terroir. This vision makes Geoffroy a benchmark among Vignerons, for its commitment to soil regeneration and the protection of biodiversity.
