Champagne Elise Dechannes
Absolute Terre
The Champagne Absolue Terre by Elise Dechannes is a tribute to earth in all its forms, the soils that nourish the vineyard and the clay that holds the wine, an intimate expression from Les Riceys, a village in the Aube at the southernmost tip of the Côte des Bar, also renowned for the rare Rosé des Riceys AOC. The grapes come from a single family-owned parcel grown on Kimmeridgian soils of limestone and marl rich in marine fossils, where the vigneronne carries out careful and respectful work, designed to faithfully convey the character of the place.
This edition, from the 2020 harvest, comes from a warm and early Vintage that brought healthy, fully ripe grapes to the cellar, made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes picked from a single parcel to create a Blanc de Noirs of great personality. Vinification and maturation take place in terracotta jars for ten months, a vessel that encourages natural micro-oxygenation and respects the purity of the fruit without adding oak notes, giving the wine a broad texture and a sincere expression of terroir. At the time of dégorgement it is completed without final dosage, in the Brut Nature style, a choice that preserves its integrity and mineral tension.
On tasting, Absolue Terre 2020 shows a bright golden colour and a fine, lively perlage, which accompanies an open nose of surprising aromatic generosity, where notes of ripe red fruits, yellow apple and citrus intertwine with hints of dried flowers, nuts and a chalky background of limestone origin. On the palate the entry is broad and gourmand, supported by a full structure and well-integrated freshness that finds balance in the richness of the fruit, while the absence of dosage enhances a clear salinity that carries the wine through to a taut, mineral and beautifully persistent finish. Production in a limited run of 1,657 bottles.
