Champagne Domaine La Borderie
L'Arpent Oublié 2021
The Champagne L'Arpent Oublié by Domaine La Borderie is born of a project as rare as it is fascinating, devoted to Pinot Blanc, a grape variety belonging to the celebrated cépages oubliés, grown on its own and coming from a single vineyard named Val Moré near Bar-sur-Seine, in the southernmost part of the Côte des Bar. The name Arpent recalls an ancient unit of agricultural measurement equal to 0.51 hectares, underlining the close bond between this wine and the single plot from which it takes shape, a vineyard once forgotten and today finally rediscovered.
This edition, Vintage 2021, undergoes vinification with 20% in wood and the remaining part in stainless steel, where malolactic fermentation takes place. There follows an ageing on the lees for at least 24 months and no final dosage, which defines its Brut Nature style and enhances its varietal purity.
In tasting, L'Arpent Oublié shows a pale golden colour with green highlights. On the nose it reveals a fine and complex profile, with notes of almond, wild plants and flowers, linden blossom, lemon, pear and green apple, accompanied by touches of peppermint, verbena and smoky accents. On the palate it combines fruity substance and mineral tension, with lively acidity and a sumptuous, elegant and saline finish, the hallmark of a precise vinification that respects the terroir. Production in a limited run of 3,300 bottles.
