Mesnil Experience Magnum
The Champagne Mesnil Experience by André Jacquart carries the signature of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, a Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs where chalk lies just a few centimetres below the surface and gives Chardonnay a saline tension that few other villages express with such clarity. The name itself tells of a search, that of a Blanc de Blancs joining the verticality of the chalky terroir to a broader and more textured reading.
This edition, with a 2019 harvest base completed by vin de réserve from the 2017 and 2018 years, involves vinification and maturation in barrique and, after tirage, comes more than four years of ageing on the lees closed by the dégorgement, with a final dosage of 4 g/l, in Extra Brut style, that leaves the transparency of the wine untouched.
On tasting, Mesnil Experience shows a bright golden hue crossed by a fine and continuous perlage, with an aromatic range moving between candied citrus, ripe white fruit, toasted almond and a chalky echo of great definition. On the palate the material is broad and creamy, shaped by the long rest on the lees and the ageing in wood, while the acidity keeps drive and precision and carries the wine towards a long, savoury and finely mineral finish of remarkable persistence.
