Chromatique Magnum

The Champagne Chromatique by Stéphane Regnault is a Blanc de Blancs made only from Chardonnay grapes, drawn from several parcels on chalky terroir around the villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oger, among the most prestigious Grand Crus of the Côte des Blancs. Its name recalls the chromatic scale in music, which uses every note, because the cuvée brings together a little of each plot to offer a complete portrait of the terroir. Old vines between forty and sixty years of age give the Chardonnay an expression of rare purity, verticality and finesse.

This Magnum edition, based on the 2021 harvest, is enriched with 20% perpetual vin de réserve. Vinification and spontaneous fermentation take place partly in stainless steel vats and partly in used oak barrels, with malolactic fermentation left free to occur. After tirage, the wine ages on its lees for at least 42 months, which develops aromatic complexity and precision on the palate. The final dosage of 2 g/l, in the Extra Brut style, keeps the strong mineral imprint and the elegance of the style intact.

On tasting, Chromatique reveals a fine and clear-cut profile, enlivened by a silky bubble and an aromatic range in which fresh citrus and white flowers intertwine with the chalky notes typical of the Grand Cru. On the palate it is balanced and deeply savoury, driven by an incisive mineral tension that runs through its texture and leads to a long, saline finish of rare persistence, an authentic reflection of the depth of the terroir it comes from.
