The Champagne Primitif by Pierre Deville is born as one of the most authentic and identity-driven interpretations of the vineyards of Verzy Grand Cru, in the Montagne de Reims. The cuvée reflects Alban Corbeaux’s intention to offer an original, essential, and transparent expression of the territory, here enhanced through a blend combining 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. The village’s chalky and clay-limestone soils shape a profile rich in mineral tension, energy, and depth, consistent with the Domaine’s artisanal approach.

This edition comes from a 2022 base vintage (50%), completed by 50% wines from the 2020 and 2021 harvests. The first fermentation takes place 30% in fût de chêne and 70% in stainless-steel tanks, according to a production philosophy that combines technical precision and spontaneity. After the tirage, ageing on the lees continues for a minimum of 24 months, aimed at intensifying complexity and harmony. The final dosage of 2.5 g/l, in Extra Brut style, defines a balanced, clean Champagne consistent with the vigneron’s vision.

On the palate, Primitif expresses itself with notes of small red fruits, pomegranate, ripe citrus and light spicy nuances deriving from the moderate use of oak. On the palate it reveals structure and dynamism, supported by a precise balance between density and freshness. The persistence is long and harmonious, with elegant fruity echoes and mineral accents that reflect the chalky nature of Verzy.
