Grand Vintage Collection 2000
The Grand Vintage Collection by Moët & Chandon belongs to the prestigious series of limited editions that the Maison selects exclusively in those vintages considered truly exceptional from 1842 to the present day. Each edition offers a unique interpretation of its harvest year, maturing for many years in the historic cellars before release, only when extended ageing has bestowed balance, depth, and authenticity.
The Champagne Grand Vintage Collection 2000, the sixty-seventh edition declared by the Maison, was born from a year marked by dramatic climatic fluctuations – cold spells, rain, sudden heat, and storms – making the vintage challenging yet extraordinary. These conditions produced a Champagne rich in contrasts, described as the “paradox of opulence”: bold yet radiant, structured yet animated by a playful vitality. The blend is led by Chardonnay (50%), harvested unusually late and contributing fullness and complexity, supported by the intensity of Pinot Noir (34%) and the softness of Meunier (16%). Unlike the Grand Vintage, the Collection 2000 underwent an additional nine years of ageing under cork, achieving a rare and refined maturity. The dosage, set at 7 g/l, reflects the Chef de Cave’s intention to highlight the vintage’s energy, tension, and purity.
On the palate, Grand Vintage Collection 2000 opens with authority: aromas of toasted almond, hazelnut, sweet spices, nougat, and honey lead into a brighter evolution, revealing grapefruit, star anise, candied citrus, and a radiant summer fruit profile – peach, apricot, fig – accompanied by floral notes of jasmine and hawthorn. On the palate, it is warm, creamy, and opulent, yet immediately lifted by a vibrant, crisp finish that prolongs freshness. The persistence is long, precise, and enveloping, balancing richness, maturity, and energy within a glowing, golden, and finely textured frame.
