The Champagne Millésimé 2018 by Charles Heidsieck perfectly embodies the Maison’s philosophy of depth and elegance. It masterfully combines power and finesse, while preserving the vibrant freshness and ageing potential that are the hallmark of its style. The blend consists of 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, predominantly sourced from Grands and Premiers Crus such as Ambonnay, Tauxières, Vertus, Bouzy, Verzy, and Trigny.
The 2018 vintage, despite a turbulent spring marked by heavy rain and storms, was followed by a hot and dry summer that encouraged rapid and uniform ripening. The grapes, healthy and perfectly ripe, yielded wines of great expressiveness—ideal also for replenishing the reserves impacted by the challenging 2017 vintage.
On tasting, Millésimé 2018 stands out from the first glance with its bright golden hue and lively effervescence. The nose opens with elegant notes of cocoa, roasted coffee, and brioche, accompanied by hints of quince and roasted pineapple. With aeration, a rich fruity palette emerges, revealing peach, apricot, and blackberry jelly. The palate is round and generous, with a full and juicy attack. The fruity notes gradually intensify, offering a deep and persistent flavour profile. The finish is tense and savoury, with a bitter echo of cocoa and liquorice that enhances its complexity. A vintage Champagne that fully reflects the bright and mineral character of an early yet surprisingly refined year.
